The 4 Plagues:  Getting a Handle on the Coming Apocalypse
by Don Hazen - June 4, 2013

“Every day, thousands, probably millions of people ask their family, friends, neighbors and colleagues similar and increasingly familiar questions:  What has happened to our country?  How did we get here?  Isn’t it scary?  Can anything be done about it?

In an environment of confusion and despair, it can be helpful to name the beast—essentially to understand the forces at play, how they operate, and why they feel both intractable and overwhelming.  So, what follows is a kind of Users’ Guide To What Is Freaking Us Out.”

And like Commondreams, Crooks & Liars, DemocracyNow!, et al, the "Comments" section
is quite often as enlightening as the article’s themselves, sometimes even more so.

We Won One.

One Small, But Significant, Win. . .
Abby Zimet at Commondreams.org, et al

In what Julian Assange calls “a victory for free speech,” Iceland's Supreme Court has ruled that Valitor, Iceland’s Visa, must lift the blockade against payments to WikiLeaks or pay $204,900 a month - or $2,494,604 a year - in fines.  A Wikileaks statement called the decision “the most important victory to date against the unlawful and arbitrary economic blockade erected by U.S. companies against Wikileaks.”

Three Democratic Myths Used to Demean the Paul Filibuster
by Glenn Greenwald - March 10, 2013

“For the first time since the 9/11 attack, even lowly cable news shows were forced -
by the Paul filibuster - to extensively discuss the government's extremist theories of
power and to debate the need for checks and limits.

All of this put Democrats - who spent eight years flamboyantly pretending to be
champions of due process and opponents of mass secrecy and executive power
abuses - in a very uncomfortable position.”

Has America Become an Authoritarian State?
by Henry A. Giroux - January 25, 2013

“This theft of language, this technique of usurping words and deploying them like weapons, of using them to mask intent and to mean exactly the opposite of what they have traditionally meant, has been one of the most brilliant strategic victories of the czars of the new dispensation. It has allowed them to marginalize their detractors, deprive them of a language to voice their critique and dismiss them as being "anti-progress," "anti-development," "anti-reform," and of course "anti-national" - negativists of the worst sort. To reclaim these stolen words requires explanations that are too tedious for a world with a short attention span, and too expensive in an era when Free Speech has become unaffordable for the poor. This language heist may prove to be the keystone of our undoing.”

Debtpocalypse and the Hollowing Out of America

Stand Still for the Apocalypse
by Chris Hedges - November 26, 2012

“The political and corporate elites in the industrialized world continue, in spite of overwhelming scientific data, to place short-term corporate profit and expediency before the protection of human life and the ecosystem.  The fossil fuel industry is permitted to determine our relationship to the natural world, dooming future generations.  Carbon dioxide (CO2), the main greenhouse gas, increased from its pre-industrial concentration of about 278 parts per million (ppm) to more than 391 ppm in September 2012, with the rate of rise now at 1.8 ppm per year.  We have already passed the tipping point of 350 ppm; above that level, life as we have known it cannot be sustained.  The CO2 concentration is higher now than at any time in the last 15 million years.  The emissions of CO2, currently about 35 billion metric tons per year, are projected to climb to 41 billion metric tons per year by 2020.”

Conservative Southern Values Revived:
by Sara Robinson - June 28, 2012

“How a Brutal Strain of American Aristocrats Have Come to Rule America”
“It’s been said that the rich are different than you and me.  What most Americans don’t
know is that they’re also quite different from each other, and that which faction is currently
running the show ultimately makes a vast difference in the kind of country we are.

Right now, a lot of our problems stem directly from the fact that the wrong sort has finally
gotten the upper hand; a particularly brutal and anti-democratic strain of American aristo-
crat that the other elites have mostly managed to keep away from the levers of power since
the Revolution.  Worse: this bunch has set a very ugly tone that’s corrupted how people with
power and money behave in every corner of our culture.  Here’s what happened, and how it
happened, and what it means for America now.”

“Across America—and particularly in the red states that have rejected gay marriage—divorce rates are continually rising, along with teen pregnancies, out-of-wedlock births and single motherhood (which somehow afflict gay-friendly blue states far less).  Gay rights obviously isn’t the cause of marital strife and separation in those places where hostility to same-sex relationships is considered a religious duty.”

Why Do You Keep Allowing?

“Last Call at the Oasis”
by Tara Lohan - May 11, 2012

“There are 1,200 Superfund sites the EPA can’t deal with, the government won’t save you.

For all our clean water laws, we aren’t very good at enforcement.  From 2004 to 2005 an investigation found that the Clean Water Act was violated more than half a million times.  It’s not just industry, but pesticides like atrazine, which we learn can be detected in the rain water in Minnesota when it’s being applied in Kansas.  In Michigan we see another awful side to Big Ag, the liquid waste from factory “farming,” known as Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations.  These CAFOs threaten drinking water with chemicals, antibiotics and growth hormones.”

Excellent Quote. . .

“How Our Demented Capitalist System Made America Insane”
by Chris Hedges - April 30, 2012

“When civilizations start to die they go insane.  Let the ice sheets in the Arctic melt.  Let the temperatures rise.  Let the air, soil and water be poisoned.  Let the forests die.  Let the seas be emptied of life.  Let one useless war after another be waged.  Let the masses be thrust into extreme poverty and left without jobs while the elites, drunk on hedonism, accumulate vast fortunes through exploitation, speculation, fraud and theft.  Reality, at the end, gets unplugged.  We live in an age when news consists of Snooki’s pregnancy, Hulk Hogan’s sex tape and Kim Kardashian’s denial that she is the naked woman cooking eggs in a photo circulating on the internet.”

Wacky... Wacky I Tell You!

An Excellent, And Needed Perspective of a Sane and Honest Man.
By Glenn Greenwald - March 10, 2012

Dennis Kucinich and “wackiness”

“Forced to name the “craziest” policy favored by American politicians, I’d say the multibillion-dollar war on drugs, which no one thinks is winnable.  Asked about the most “extreme,” I’d cite the invasion of Iraq, a war of choice that has cost many billions of dollars and countless innocent lives. . . .

I hardly expect the news media to denigrate the policies I’ve named, nor do I expect their Republican and Democratic supporters to be labeled crazy, kooky, or extreme.  These disparaging descriptors are never applied to America’s policy establishment, even when it is proved ruinously wrong, whereas politicians who don’t fit the mainstream Democratic or Republican mode. . . . are mocked almost reflexively in these terms, if they are covered at all. . . .

[I]s it not just as extreme that President Obama claims an unchecked power to assassinate, without due process, any American living abroad whom he designates as an enemy combatant?  Or that Joe Lieberman wants to strip Americans of their citizenship not when they are convicted of terrorist activities, but upon their being accused and designated as enemy combatants? . . . [C]razy, kooky, extreme actions are perpetrated by establishment centrists far more often than by [those typically derided in mainstream circles as crazy].”

I hope Mr. Kucinich "never gives up". . .  As we need men of his courage, sanity, and honesty.

Hard To Accept - But - Not Hard To Understand
An Interview with Morris Berman By Nomi Prins - March 7, 2012

“Why the American Empire Was Destined to Collapse”

“...all of the data over the last 20 years show that Americans are not very bright, and not even the bright ones are very bright—it’s not merely a question of IQ.  A Marist poll released on July 4, 2011 showed that 42 percent of American adults are unaware that the U.S. declared its independ- ence in 1776, and this figure increases to 69 percent for the under-30 age group.  Twenty-five percent of Americans don’t know from which country the United States seceded.  A poll taken in the Oklahoma public school system turned up the fact that 77 percent of the students didn’t know who George Washington was, and the Texas Board of Education recently voted to include a unit on Estee Lauder in the history curriculum, when they don’t have one on the first president.  Near- ly 30 percent of the American population thinks the sun revolves around the earth or is unsure of which revolves around which.  Etc.  etc.  How can such a population grasp a structural analysis of American history or politics?  They simply aren’t capable of it.”

I’ve watched this decline, and posted about it for some time, and like Morris Berman, et al, I know it is past the nation's ability to recover from its own destruction - When the realization finally sunk in, last year, I couldn't post anything, for what turned out to be a full year - The realization of my nation's failure to see the denial of its failure just was too much to handle.

I Know You Won't Do Anything...

Since You've Done Nothing So Far - But one Can Hope - Right?

The Religious Right's Plot To Take Control Of Our Public Schools

The people who brought you "Jesus Camp" are moving into your neighborhood school.
And there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

I have no doubt, with all that you so called citizens have allowed so far, that you'll also allow this to go unchallenged, therefore allowing another part of this once great democracy to be destroyed, simply because you couldn't be bothered, or don't actually believe it.

Just curious...  Why the fuck do you keep “allowing”,
(without any fight... nor even any real protests,)
your own, (and the rest of ours,) destructions?!?

Seriously - Why?!?

Is it simply that you lack the courage?

Or - Have we truly become a nation of cowardly allowers?

Nothing Has Changed...

The “Allowing” Just Continues To Get More Insanely “Allowed.”
And The-So-Very-Few Are Laughing Their Asses Off At You For Their “Allowed” Theft.

It doesn’t matter how bad it gets, the allowing just continues to get worse - It is so in-the-face of us Americans, and yet you simply do not react with courage nor conviction, or even rationally.
Hacker
{-The Way Many Picture Me-}

The lying about the lies just continues to be allowed by "patriotic Americans" to this day, without protests, without true outrage, without revolt.

Nothing has changed since my last posting, other than more GOP/MIC/1%'ers ass kissing by the selling-out Obama. And nothing has changed in your cowardly allowing of the continued and purposeful destruction of the American democracy. It is only getting worse, and you are allowing to it to get worse.  [50% of American adults can not read above an eighth grade level. - Source Link]  Because of it, and much more, the corporatists can no longer even pretend to hide their sneering disdain of you...  We have become “a nation of cowardly allowers.”  As I have often said. . .

The simple complexity of the complex simplicity is beyond most Americans.

The problem with the stupid and ignorant among us, is that while they “proudly and patriotically,” allow their own self-destruction by fighting among themselves, as they were programmed to do... is that they are destroying much more than just their environment, their livelihoods, their lives...  They are destroying us all.

Ignorance is curable, stupidity is forever.

Fight the stupid - Educate the ignorant.  Or stupidly pay the price.

Oh, wait...  We already are.

And we definitely deserve what is coming, for - “Allowing” it - To get as bad as it has.

Maybe you haven't noticed yet, but it is going to be allowed to get much worse for us, but not for the successfully sneering so-very-few allowed corporatist thieves.

Do you think they, the-so-very-few successful and allowed corporatist thieves, are going to now allow you to take the money back?!?  Are you really that naïve?!?

You allowed America to become the most incarcerated nation in history, by raw numbers,
and by percentage of population. . .  You allowed it.  Now, aren’t you proud?
